| For
centuries the rivers Lot and Garonne were used for
transporting merchandise such as wood, wine, coal, glass and
leather. The western reaches of the river Lot are open to
Connoisseur Cruisers, from Aiguillon to Villeneuve-sur-Lot,
47 kilometres will be available with just two locks to
negotiate.
And it's a cruising holiday with a difference, for on
reaching Aiguillon you'll enjoy the unique experience of a
pilot boat (charge to be paid locally) joining with you to
take you along the 6km stretch of the River Garonne onto the
River Baïse, a marvellous river whose banks and surroundings
so wild will evoke the Amazon!

Yet it remains resplendent in its
many villages and towns in which you
can wander the markets and fairs.
The town of Condom thrives on
Armagnac, the brandy of the Gers
region, subtly different in flavour
from the better known Cognac, but
believed by many to be superior. |

There are
many places in the town for tasting and
buying Armagnac, and the Musée de l'Armagnac
should not be overlooked. The rivers Lot,
Garonne and Baïse are rivals to its
delectable food and wine. Foie gras, corfits,
truffles, prunes, the wines of Cahors and
Buzet are just a few examples to whet your
appetite as you cruise through this warm and
friendly area. |
